Primary and Transition Unit

 

The learning journey for pupils at Yeoman Park begins in the Primary Unit at Early Years Foundation Stage moving through to KS1, KS2 and the early years of KS3.

We aim to provide a stimulating, challenging and caring environment, which allows each child to develop to their full potential educationally, physically, socially and personally. Communication and working towards independence is at the core of our teaching.
The curriculum encompasses creative learning and developing thinking skills through structured play, functional activities and topic-based approaches.

The Primary Unit

There are  2 classes in the Primary Unit catering for pupils with severe learning difficulties, Autism,  complex learning, physical, sensory and medical needs. 

 Pupils are grouped according to their learning styles and Teachers and TAs work together to provide stimulating and exciting learning opportunities. Personal care assistants and a health care assistant are there to support learning and  meet the personal and health care needs of all pupils. 

The Transition Unit

The unit is for pupils with severe learning difficulties and Autism who have completed their Primary education and are moving into the next phase of school life.


 

 

 

                              

             

 

The Early Years Framework

 

The current Early Years Framework became statutory in September 2012. At Yeoman Park School we adhere to this new framework. All children in the EYFS have access to a broad, rich creative curriculum both indoors and outdoors built around their interests. The Early Years framework consists of seven areas of learning and objectives from this are taught and planned for and provide a framework which enables us to achieve our aims for Under Fives provision.

Children’s progress through the Foundation Stage is regularly tracked against the Ages and Stages, of ‘Development Matters in the EYFS’ framework to ensure that at least Good progress is being made for all children against their starting points.

All pupils will have a baseline assessment during the first half term from September 2017 in line with new DFE requirements

The Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum (EYFS) applies to children from birth to the end of the Reception year. It has its own framework and is therefore treated as a separate Key Stage. Foundation Stage 1 (F1) refers to three to four year olds and is formally known as the Nursery. Foundation Stage 2 (F2) refers to four to five year olds and is formally known as Reception.

Early childhood education is valued in itself and should not be seen merely as a preparation for the next stage in learning.

The EYFS is based upon these key principles:

A Unique Child – “Every child is a unique child who is constantly learning and can be resilient, capable, confident and self-assured”

Enabling Environments – “Children learn and develop well in enabling environments, in which their experiences respond to their individual needs and there is a strong partnership between practitioners and parents and carers”

Positive Relationships – At Yeoman Park School we recognise that children learn to be strong and independent from secure relationships. We aim to develop caring, respectful, professional relationships with the children and their families.
